The work of a gardener is never done, so don’t hang up your garden gloves just yet.
Here are some gardening tasks to tackle in July.
- Check on your irrigation system.
- Prune back climbing roses after blooms have faded.
- By the middle of the month, begin pinching back your mums
- Add a thick 2- to 3-inch layer of mulch around your plants
- If you have a bearded iris, now is the time to begin dividing them.
- Keep your flowers blooming by deadheading and fertilizing.
- Continue to plant gladiolus through the middle of the month.
- Divide your lilies as soon as they are done blooming.
- Prune wisteria
- Also prune lilacs, and yarrow.
- Deadhead your daylilies.
- Sow broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, peas, radish, spinach, etc., for the fall.
